Shoot day review

I am quite pleased with how my shoot day went in the end. I believe it was a challenge to re-adapt ideas in the last second due to unfortunate circumstances however I believe I achieved a final product that really captures what documentary conventions are supposed to include and I believe that I have portrayed my contributor in a positive light and have sustained his image nicely which is important in a documentary the contributor should always be pleased with the final product.

I believe that we stuck to the shoot plan successfully with only a few minor delays in the timing that the shoot officially started. Most of the crew arrived prepared for a set around 09:25AM, however, the main contributor required more time to get set up which left a small space for readjustments of the set layout e.g rearranging fabrics. The main contributor was ready around 09:37 AM. Everyone was prepared on set by 09:55AM and the shoot started then. As the contributor was getting himself ready I arranged the equipment, such as where I wanted the camera, tripod, boom mic and lighting to be.

Shooting started at 09:55AM we started by taping the master interview shot as this was the most vital and longest shot I had to get done.  The master interview shot was shot using a 19mm lens. I didn't want any blank space to appear so using the rule of thirds there was something in every quartile. We continued to use this lens type throughout the shoot day as I didn't have other options to switch between. After this, I moved the equipment to where I wanted it to be in the second location to film the model section. The model went to go prepare himself in some of the contributor's pieces. Using different focuses and zoom-ins I was able to gather the shots I required of the model as well as gathering the essential audio of the contributor explaining each of his individual pieces. No light-up set-up was required for the second filming location.

After finishing up the shoot with the contributors, they went to grab some lunch at 13:30 PM.

I stayed on set and took some misc shots showing different fashion elements such as the fabrics using close-up shots and took some panning shallow focus pans up and down showing the measuring tapes in an abstract artistic fashion. I made some zoom in handheld shots of a magazine that displayed some of the contributors work while holding the ring light in my mouth. I then called back Lucas to take some close up shots of his hands sewing and some extreme close up shots of his face panning from left to right.

I was able to call it a wrap at around 14:55PM.

After I had gathered all the footage I made sure to upload all of it onto my computer and organise and label each piece of footage I captured as well as labelling the bloopers.

Really finishing up:

After uploading all the footage I had captured I cleaned all the sets back up re-folding all of the fabrics and removing the art from the windows. I then also replaced the furniture back into position. In the end, I managed to gather around 2 hours of footage.
