Logos

What types of logos are there?

Logos are what we use to brand something, it is what we use to recognize a band or singer, etc.

1. Lettermark logo

A lettermark logo is a typography-based image that is made up of a few letters, usually a company's initials. The lettermark is all about simplicity. By using just a few letters lettermark logos are an effective at reducing any brand that has a long name. An example of this would be NASA, this is an abbreviation for National Aeronautics and Space Administration which is harder to remember.

2. Wordmark logo

A wordmark logo is very similar to a lettermark logotype, wordmark logos use a specific type of font-based logo that focuses on a business' name alone. A good example of this would be coca-cola. Wordmark logos are best suited to brands with a distinct name, that is catchy or memorable.

3. Pictoral marks

A pictorial mark is an icon or a graphic-based logo. An example of this would be apple or Twitter etc. These are usually very simple designs that are very recognizable.

4. Abstract logo marks

An abstract mark is a specific type of pictorial logo. These logos are usually constructed by abstract geometric shapes that represent a business.  An example of this would be Pepsi. Logos like this allow people to create something that is completely unique.

5.Mascots

Mascot logos are a type of logo that includes an illustrated character, normally the character is colourful and sometimes cartoonish, and normally this character would be made to look fun. This logo design gives your brand a spokesperson. Examples of this would be the KFC, Kellogs, etc.

6. Combination mark logo

A combination mark logo is comprised of a combined wordmark or lettermark with a pictorial mark, abstract mark, or mascot. These logos combine the two in some way, examples of these would be Lacoste, chameleon, etc.

7. Emblem logo

An emblem logo consists of a font inside a symbol or an icon; badges, seals and crests. These logos are usually seen to be traditional however they can make a striking impact, often many schools choose this type of logo. Examples of this would be Starbucks, the Harvard logo, Standford logo, etc.

MIKA

Mika's current logo :

My redesign of Mika's logo:

I chose MIKA because he is a very out-there artist with huge quirks, his music reminded me of a burst of colours especially his song Lollipop, and with this, in mind, I believed incorporating huge amounts of colour was very important.

PINK

Pink's current logo:

My redesign of Pink's logo :

Pink is a very out there feminist artist who is strongly opinionated, when redesigning her logo I believed she needed something that screamed this, but also something that was patriotic. This logo design combines the different aspects of Pink, that I believe she represents. It's a bold logo.

Kings of Leon

Kings of Leon current logo :

My redesign of the Kings of Leon logo:

Kings of Leon have a very bold name and I thought it would be interesting to combine a strong animal with them such as a crocodile, a crocodile is a bold animal which also represents the Kings of Leon's music.
