'Inside the UK's Rapidly Changing Drag Culture' analysis

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MddilSDv7Po

 Scene 1:

The opening of the documentary starts with a mid-shot displaying two drag queens in costume shouting down the street with diegetic sound. A pan from right to left is used to show who the drags are talking to before a quick fade transition into a collage of shots one displaying the Netflix logo and drag shows using mid-shots. The diegetic sound of cheering fades into the collage of shots displaying the part life of drag. Crazy Hair and make-up can be seen on the drag queens that establish them as drag queens. A jump cut is used to cut to an informatic that explains the general basis of how the drag community has been affected by the pandemic, it can clearly be seen to be added during the editing stages as it is a green-screened background displaying the information in white font writing. Club pop type diegetic music can be heard very vaguely in the background. A jump cut is then used to present a close-up shot of make-up that the drag queens use it uses natural lighting with a slightly shallow focus so that the audience focuses on the make-up. A non-diegetic narrator can be heard over the top of the close-up of the makeup.

Scene 2:

A mid shot then displays the first contributor from an angle sitting on his bed applying his makeup for a drag performance which establishes him as a drag queen. Close up shots are used between jump cuts to display the contributor applying his makeup as the diegetic narration continues. Shots switch back and forward between close-ups of make-up application and of the contributor himself in a close mid-shot. Non-diegetic cheering fades back into the documentary when a jump cut is presented of the contributor performing at one of his shows. The mid-shot/ master interview uses natural lighting as well as artificial lighting. The video establishing the show displays a hand help shot panning from left to right showing the performance and the audience reaction which is positive.

Scene 3:

A long shot is used to establish the second contributor as well as to promote Netflix by using a large caravan in the background covered in the Netflix Logo. Natural lighting is used. A Dutch tilt is used to show the man walking uphill past the caravan. Natural lighting is used to present that it is daytime. Two props are used on the uphill road the props consist of two model dogs that have wigs being placed on them most likely to present the very niche category of drag dogs to be all-inclusive of all drag types. Narration is used by the man who is the main focus of the shot, we can hear his voice which is non-diegetic to him while wondering the town he is in, the dietetic sound that can be heard is the seagulls that can be heard in the background, this creates the sense that he is near the seaside. To transition it uses a jump cut to show a sign turning from open to closed.

In the next jumpcut, we are presented with a close-up of one of the drag contributors, they show him from a side angle. Vibrant colours are used in the background to highlight the creativity and vibrancy of the industry.
