Personal Camera workshop

The camera I will be using is Canon DSLR EOS 77D.

A DSLR camera is a digital single-lens reflex camera. Inside the camera’s main body is a mirror that reflects the light coming from the lens up into an optical viewfinder, either by a prism (in higher-end DSLRs) or a group of additional mirrors (usually in lower-end models). This is how you can see what you are taking a photo of, right through the lens, and is where the term “reflex” comes from, referring to mirror’s reflection. When the shutter is pressed, that mirror flips up out of the way, the shutter slides open, and light coming from the lens allows a clear photo to be taken.

The advantage of this design, there is no lag, whereas a mirrorless camera does have lag. This is because what is seen is then transferred to another digital part of the camera causing lag.

The disadvantage is that you can’t see the photo before it is taken. Another advantage is that DSLRs have very long battery life because the optical viewfinder uses very little power. Beginner models, like Canon’s EOS Rebel T7i, are normally good for at least 600 shots, whereas professional models, like Nikon’s 45-megapixel D850, have batteries that can last for over 1,000.

Disadvantages
  • The DSLR camera is bigger than what it is capable of carrying. It is hard to take on holiday because it is extremely big and heavy. It will take up most of your baggage allowance weight.
  • This camera is big and it's hard to carry without hitting it on something. If you hit it or its lens the camera will probably stop working.
  • It is extremely difficult to change the settings on a DSLR camera because of its size.
Advantages
  • The starter time on this type of camera is extremely quick.
  • It has faster focusing and minimal shutter delays.
  • You can do continuous shooting.
  • There is also low noise.
  • Choice of lenses and filters and flashes can be added.
